This 10 piece knife set features 4 steak knives as well as a 3 1/2 inch paring knife, 5 inch utility knife, 8 inch slicer, 7 1/2 inch chef’s knife and an 8 inch sharpening steel. The knives fit neatly in a 12 slot block which has a few extra slots for additional knives.
Independent reviews are generally positive except for one major flaw. The knives, made of carbon steel will rust if washed in a dishwasher or not immediately dried after hand washing. Maintenance in the form of oiling the blade on a regular basis, is something of an inconvenience.
On the positive side, the knives come very sharp and continue to stay sharp after months of use. The set is made with thin blades and light handles, making it very easy to hold and maneuver when cutting. As a lower priced starter set of the Chicago Cutlery line of knives, the performance is about what one would expect. It is good for an individual or a couple who does not have the need for large place settings (only 4 steak knives).
I would not hesitate to recommend this set for individuals willing to do the necessary maintenance to keep their knives in like new condition. If you don’t want the hassle of oiling knives or hand washing and drying them, do not buy this set. Otherwise, performance is excellent. These knives cut and slice very well.
